Seasonal Meats
All our turkeys and geese are bred purely for the Christmas market, using traditional methods rather that the "mass production" seen in supermarkets. They are reared from hatchlings, for a minimum of 26 weeks (supermarkets typically 16-18 weeks). This allows them to develop naturally. All our birds are free range, which means they have the freedom to roam, but also have access to shelter should they prefer. These high standards of animal welfare, coupled with traditional breeding methods result in a far superior end product.
We offer a selection of birds to suit your individual taste, or if you don't fancy turkey this Christmas, we also offer a wide range of game, including venison from Sandringham Estate, pop in to one of our shops, and your local butcher will be happy to discuss your requirements.

Christmas Beef
Here at Howards we pride ourselves on producing the highest quality beef. All cattle are sourced from local farmers, and are now processed at a small abattoir in Wells following the closure of our own, and sold through our own shops. So this is meat you really can trust. The beef available at Christmas is slaughtered by the end of November and is then hung within our premises so it will mature perfectly in time for your Christmas lunch.
HEREFORD
This breed is one of the oldest and greatest breeds in Britain. The origin of the Hereford was founded on the draught ox, descended from the small red cattle of Roman Briton and a large welsh breed that was once numerous along the borders of England and Wales. They take their name from the historical agricultural county of Herefordshire where this breed has evolved. It is now widely farmed throughout the country. The Hereford we supply comes from Beachamwell, Swaffham and from Wormegay, Kings Lynn. This beef has a sensational flavour, the finest marbling and wonderful tenderness.
ABERDEEN ANGUS (WIDELY KNOWN AS ANGUS)
This breed was originally developed in the early 19th century in North East Scotland, but with improvements in husbandry and transport they became well established in England and Ireland and now is renowned as the worldwide leading beef brand. The Angus we supply is farmed at Wormegay, Kings Lynn. The meat produced is very nicely marbled which gives a fantastic flavour.
SHORT HORN
This native breed has evolved over 200years from the Teeswater and the Durham cattle, found originally in the North East of England it is now farmed more widely. The shorthorn we supply is also farmed at Wormegay, Kings Lynn. The meat produced gives a well rounded combination of flavour, tenderness and fat content, and this is what makes it special.
