The Abattoir

 ​​We have been running our own licensed Abattoir since 1920. Unfortunately in January 2020 we made the difficult decision to close our abattoir due to increasing pressure from governing bodies. We did not make this decision lightly, as we still feel that a small abattoir is much better for animal welfare, however we felt that we were left with no other choice due to lack of support from those that are supposed to ensure higher standards of welfare.
  On a positive note, for those small holders who wish to have their meat processed here, we can still provide the cutting part, but the animals will need to be slaughtered elsewhere. We would recommend Arthur Howell at Wells-next-the -sea, a small abattoir very much like our own was, or alternatively H.G. Blake at Norwich. Please call us if you require this service and we will arrange this for you.

Pigs


Everything is done on site by our butchers, we cure bacon, smoke bacon, hand make the sausages with our own secret recipe bag and label the pigs and box them ready for your freezer.

 You bring your pigs on a Monday morning before 7.45am and we usually have everything done by Friday or Saturday morning. Bacon takes approx. 2 weeks to cure and can then be sliced and packed.

 We usually have a couple of weeks waiting list on pigs to be cut, so bare that in mind when thinking about having your pigs done with us!
 Our staff are always ready to help with any special requirements if you would like to arrange for slaughter etc of your pigs then give us a call.

If your pigs are brought in the day before slaughter you must provide them with food
Bringing your pigs into us you must have the following;
The pigs must have a tattoo slap mark or ear tags.
A movement licence
An FCI form (Food chain information)

Cattle


We process cattle on a Wednesday they must arrive before 8am. On occasion you can bring the animal on a Tuesday afternoon just ring to book this in. Please bear in mind that if you animal is on site for more than 12 hours prior to slaughter, please provide some feed(water is provided by automatic drinkers). 

All meat is labeled and boxed ready for your freezer.

Lambs

 
Lambs are brought here on a Tuesday morning before 8am on some occasions can be brought on a Monday afternoon. If your animal is here for more than 12 hours you must provide feed.
